VHP activists held in Ayodhya

Police on Friday arrested about a dozen Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists who were trying to march towards the disputed site of Babri Masjid/ Ramjanma Bhoomi. VHP activists want to re-plant the Tulsi plants that were allegedly removed by the administration.

However, the heavy police force deployed outside the residence of VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti stopped the VHP activists from marching forward. The activists were arrested and later released when they surrendered before the police. They also submitted a memorandum to the resident magistrate of Ayodhya regarding the agitation.

The issue cropped up on December 25, when on the objection raised by Muslim parties, the administration at the disputed site of Babri Masjid /Ramjanma Bhoomi removed the Tulsi plants being planted around the disputed shrine of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya.

A functionary of the disputed site on the condition of anonymity said, “On December 25 during monthly inspection of the disputed site by both Hindu and Muslim parties along with administrative and judicial officials, Tulsi plants were found being planted near Ram temple in large number, so the Muslim parties objected and complained it as a violation of Supreme Court’s order of status quo. So, we have removed all Tulsi plants from the site along with other vegetation grown up there.”
